28) Charlotte Bobcats (Hornets at beginning of 2014 season) 21-61 in 2012-2013. 14th in the East. 4th in the Southeast.
It's been quite an odd adventure for the Bobcats under team owner Michael Jordan. Ever since the tandem of Steven Jackson, Ray Felton and Gerald Wallace left the city of Charlotte, the team has yet to really get anything going. Now the soon-to-be Hornets are looking to revamp the roster with draft picks and under-the-radar moves like their signing of Center Al Jefferson in the offseason.
Acquired: Al Jefferson, Jannero Pargo, Anthony Tolliver
Drafted: Cody Zeller (#4)
Lost: DeSagana Diop, Byron Mullens, Reggie Williams, Tyrus Thomas
Starters: Kemba Walker (PG), Gerald Henderson (SG), Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (SF), Cody Zeller (PF), Al Jefferson (C)
Bench: Ramon Sessions (PG), Bismack Biyombo (C), Ben Gordon (SG), Josh McRoberts (PF), Jeff Taylor (PF)
Up: Kemba Walker - Coming out of Connecticut, many weren't sure of his standing in the NBA, yet he's been the only bright spot on the Bobcats team. Many believe he could be a future star Point Guard with the right pieces surrounding him. And this year he will have a big guy to rely on in Al Jefferson.
Down: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - It's tough to make it into the NBA as a SF without a jump shot. Since being taken #2 in the draft behind Anthony Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist has struggled to live up to the potential fans might have had for him. This year will be a big part of his career and what kind of player he can develop into.
X-Factor: Al Jefferson - Big Ally J wanted his money and sure got it. After another huge year in 2012-2013 in Utah, Jefferson decided to change his location and headed to Charlotte to be part of the Michael Jordan Project. Though not having Paul Millsap to help give him space and getting used to a new supporting cast will be a tough task for the savy Center.
Question to Ponder...Shouldn't this team be tanking?
Now yes this team is quite terrible, but in a year where the draft has the kind of hype this one has, shouldn't the Bobcats trying to get worse? The past two years have been miserable, and the teams have been more than terrible, yet this year they decide to get Al Jefferson and make moves to make the team better. This is confusing with the kind of talent they would have a better chance at if they give up on the year. Maybe MJ just got sick of hearing the flack, or maybe these guys think they've found the formula to build a contender, it just seems odd this year they get more talent when the draft is so promising.
Bold Prediction for the Bobcats/Hornets: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will be in the 2014 Dunk Contest
Now if Kidd-Gilchrist can't get a jumpshot going, he'll have to do it on the boards, and that could mean a lot of dunks. Expect him to go out there and make some spectacular dunks in a lot of games this year, which will give him quite the fanbase for the Dunk Contest. While stars aren't ready to go for the Contest, I could definitely see MKG accepting the gig if the NBA asks him to participate in the Dunk Contest this year. At least Charlotte fans will have something to watch this year during the festivities.
Projected Record: 24-58 14th in the East, 5th in the Southeast
